South Africa was selected for the 2020 International Jazz Day event which has unfortunately been cancelled due to COVID-19. Vittorio and I have toured in South Africa on two occasions over the past few years appearing at local venues as well as jazz festivals held there and launching our Convergence album (Ozella Music). Broadcast Details 7pm – Kate Wadey Trio – (live) 7.30pm – Mezza / Ginsburg Ensemble – (streamed on Facebook) 8pm – Jeremy Rose Quartet – (live) Watch All Three Events Here International Jazz Day is an International Day declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation in 2011 “to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe.” Celebrated annually on April 30, it’s the brainchild of jazz pianist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock. This year the day takes on a special significance, given the current pandemic, promoting worldwide cultural unity through the wonderful medium of jazz. SIMA is proud to combine with Johnston Street Jazz to present two live streamed performances from the Kate Wadey Trio and the Jeremy Rose Quartet. The evening will also include an exclusive first release stream of the Mark Ginsburg/Vittorio Mezza ensemble, filmed at last year’s Con Jazz Festival in Sydney. Our performance at the Sydney Con International Jazz Festival was supported by the Sydney Italian Institute of Culture. |
